For the first time in 50,000 years, a rare green comet will pass by Earth from January to early February!
First discovered by scientists in March 2022, this comet will make its first close journey to the planet on January 12th.
It will be visible in the Northern Hemisphere in late January and visible in the Southern Hemisphere in early February. Sky-gazers are believed to be able to see it on the northeastern horizon starting January 12th with binoculars or telescopes. Towards the end of January, scientists believe it will be bright enough to see with the naked eye. It will travel near the bright star Polaris, or the North Star, and will be visible earlier in the evening.
Keep an eye out on the night sky for this amazing occurrence!
